about Bruce

The old Chinese farmer is in awe of the travel writer's beard. One of Bruce's experiences on his trek along the Great Wall of China.

 A few words about Bruce:

So how did Bruce finish up as a member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers  Incorporated (ASTW) you might wonder? Well Bruce did much of his travelling before he was old enough to remember it. With his father in Britain's Royal Navy and his mother being Australian he was always on the move. Before he was six years old.

With a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sydney University, Bruce became a teacher of secondary English and spent many a vacation departing for foreign climes before deciding to launch himself into travel writing and photography.

As he says, "After all that time reading other people's words, I decided I should be writing a few of my own."

Whether trekking along the Great Wall of China, pitching in as an eco-tourist volunteer on Montague Island, or taking a ghost walk in old Quebec, Bruce's travel writing and photography have captured not only the places he's visited but also the experiences of the traveller.

His travel articles and photographs have appeared in a broad range of publications around the world, details of which can be seen in the Client Lists for travel writing or photography.

In recent times his published pieces have appeared on travel.ninemsn.com.au and cnngo.com, in Australian Traveller and Get Up & Go magazines in Sydney and Destinations magazine in New Zealand, in The Sun-Herald in Australia, The Dallas Morning News in the USA and in the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. Bruce was named as one of the finalists at the 2008 ASTW Awards presentation in Shanghai, in the Travel Writer of the Year - Best Travel Journey category.
