So how did Bruce finish up as a member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers (ASTW) you might wonder? Well Bruce did much of his travelling before he was old enough to remember it. With his father in Britain's Royal Navy and his mother being Australian he was always on the move. Before he was six years old. With a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sydney University, Bruce became a teacher of secondary English and spent many a vacation departing for foreign climes before deciding to launch himself into travel writing and photography. As he says, "After all that time reading other people's words, I decided I should be writing a few of my own." Whether trekking along the Great Wall of China, pitching in as an eco-tourist volunteer on Montague Island, or taking a ghost walk in old Quebec, Bruce's travel writing and photography have captured not only the places he's visited but also the experiences of the traveller. His travel articles and photographs have appeared in a broad range of publications around the world, details of which can be seen by clicking on the Client List for travel writing or photos in the menu bar below. In recent times his published pieces have appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Sun-Herald in Australia, The Dallas Morning News in the USA, Get Up & Go magazine in Sydney and Destinations magazine in New Zealand. Bruce was named as one of the finalists at the 2008 ASTW Awards presentation in Shanghai, in the Travel Writer of the Year - Best Travel Journey category. |
