Pioneers in the Wilderness

" 'BRISBANE TO SYDNEY AIR LINER MISSING,' screamed the headlines as the nation reeled in shock. This was February 1937 when a Stinson aeroplane disappeared dramatically without trace.

Conventional wisdom saw the official search focused further south, but Bernard O'Reilly had his own thoughts about where to look. The manager of the family guesthouse in the McPherson Range, Bernard knew the rugged terrain better than anyone. The news having taken nearly a week to reach the guesthouse meant a real sense of urgency now."

This article evokes a sense of the history of the family-run O'Reilly's Rainforest Guest House through to its position today as one of the premier eco-facilities in the Gold Coast Hinterland. We meet the birdlife, lizards and brushtails possums, go bushwalking and check out the scenery. The piece takes a broader look at the area including our walks in other national parks and a visit to a winery.

Get away from it all, together

"The valley stretches into the distance, mist rising from its depths, as the couple look out from their spa. Their spa?

Yes, because this is a Canopy Suite at O'Reilly's Rainforest Guest House in south-east Queensland and admiring the Australian landscape certainly beats looking at a hotel wall.

The newest accommodation at the historic family-run guesthouse, which has operated since 1926, these suites offer privacy and luxury for time spent together.

But honeymoons are about creating those magic moments, those special memories, and with the eco-resort located in the midst of the World Heritage listed Lamington National Park, the real magic is to be found outdoors."

Two destinations for a honeymoon that doesn't just revolve around a hotel and a beach, each with an eco-tourist appeal, situated in different parts of south-east Queensland. O'Reilly's Rainforest Guest House in the World Heritage listed Lamington National Park, and Couran Cove Resort on one of the world's 15 sand islands, South Stradbroke.
